From Control Freak to Faith: A Work in Progress

From Control Freak to Faith: A Work in Progress

Life gets better when we stop trying to control everything.

Social Media Insight

A Turkish Instagram post made me realize my control patterns. The post outlined three common struggles: doubt in divine timing, fear of history repeating, and overexertion of control. Social media sometimes delivers profound wisdom in bite-sized chunks. This post changed my understanding of surrender. Modern platforms bring ancient wisdom to new audiences.

The Weight of Old Thinking

Our old beliefs add weight. We carry heavy thoughts about needing perfect control. These patterns make us overthink every situation. This constant pressure leads to anxiety and stress. The old way teaches us to micromanage our future through overplanning and worrying. I spent years thinking I had to control every aspect of my life. This mindset drained my energy and limited my growth. The need for control became a prison of my own making.

Faith

Faith brings clarity to chaos. The universe has a natural way of aligning things for us to grow. Ancient wisdom teaches acceptance of life’s flow. Modern psychology supports this through mindfulness practices. Studies show less anxiety in people who practice acceptance-based thinking. Growth comes from trusting the process. Religious texts across cultures tell us to surrender to a higher power. Research shows people with strong faith have 60% higher life satisfaction.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

“And whoever puts their trust in Allah, He will suffice them.” (Surah At-Talaq, 65:3)

“Flow with whatever may happen and let your mind be free. Stay centered by accepting whatever you are doing. This is the ultimate.” – Chuang Tzu

“Don’t demand that things happen as you wish, but wish that they happen as they do happen, and you will go on well.” – Epictetus

Present Focus

Success is in focused action in the moment. What’s the one thing you can do right now? Do that one thing. Put all your energy into that one step. Research shows single-tasking improves performance by 80% compared to multitasking. The human brain processes one thing 40% faster than multiple things. Top performers in sports and business practice moment-to-moment awareness. Focus creates flow states that make us more productive and happy.

Breaking Free from Control

Control comes from fear of uncertainty. Past experiences create false beliefs about future outcomes. These beliefs limit our potential and add unnecessary stress. Breaking free requires conscious choice to trust life’s flow. Research shows too much control correlates with depression. Clients in therapy report 70% improvement when they learn to let go of control. Freedom is in accepting uncertainty as normal.

The FormulaThe post offered three alternatives: faith instead of worry, comfort instead of stress, and surrender instead of control. This simple formula gives immediate relief from anxiety. Implementation starts with awareness of control patterns. Daily practice turns old habits into new freedom. It happens through small, consistent choices.

The Way Forward

Replace worry with trust in the process. Turn stress into learning. Convert control into accepting divine timing. Buddhist wisdom shows us the freedom in non-attachment. Practical application is doing your best then letting go of the outcome. Daily practices build trust in life’s flow. Small steps of surrender create lasting change. Reflection daily helps you identify control patterns.

My Random Thoughts

Unlearning vs. Learning

Unlearning vs. Learning

This can be something as small as a bad habit, or something as large as an entire way of thinking. Unlearning is important because it allows us to correct mistakes, adapt to new information, and change our behavior.

Real Freedom Starts When No One Knows What You're Doing

Real freedom isn’t loud or flashy—it’s quiet, peaceful, and invisible to most. In this piece, I share what I’ve learned about building a life on your own terms: staying low-key, building financial stability, dropping the ego, and moving in silence. It’s not about escaping the world, but about no longer being controlled by it.

Life Events: Your Reaction Shapes Their Impact

Good things create positive momentum. People get over excited and lose focus during good times. Keep your normal habits during good times. The CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, kept the same work ethic and decision making process during Microsoft’s record breaking quarters and tough times.
