Make Small Bets, Not Big Sacrifices

Make Small Bets, Not Big Sacrifices

Going all in on one big goal sounds bold—until life throws a curveball. In my experience, life doesn’t wait for your plans. It just moves. Constantly. Randomly.

Small bets keep you in the game

Here’s the thing: when you commit everything to one idea, one path, one goal—you give it too much power. And when it crumbles (not if, but when), it takes you down with it. But if you’ve got five small things going on? One flops. Another stalls. One surprises you and takes off. You’re still standing. Still learning. Still moving. That’s the point.

Life pushes back on obsession

Over time, I’ve noticed this weird pattern. The more weight you place on something, the more likely it is to break. Baby your car too much? Expect a flat tire. Chase money like it’s your god? Welcome to money stress. Dream endlessly about the “perfect” partner? You’ll attract all the wrong ones. It’s like the universe has this built-in mechanism to shake loose anything that gets too heavy.

Importance is a mental trap

It sneaks up on you. You think, “This one thing will change everything.” And then your world orbits around it. The pressure builds. The stakes feel unbearable. You start acting from fear, not clarity. Making small bets helps. It spreads your energy and attention. You don’t crown anything as the “one,” which keeps your mind free—and balanced.

Keep it all moving—lightly

Everything matters, but nothing should matter too much. Money, love, your startup, your family—all deserve care, but none deserve your entire self. Life moves like waves. Miss one? So what. The next is on its way. But if you’re stuck chasing one perfect wave, you’ll miss the ocean.

Quitting can be a win

Sometimes the smartest thing you can do is stop. Start again. Try something new. No shame. No drama. Just… reset. I’ve quit ideas I loved. Projects I was excited about. And guess what? Each time, I freed up space for something better. Make small bets. Drop the ones that don’t click. Keep the ones that feel alive. That’s how you stay in the flow.

Discipline vs Motivation: The Love-Fear Spectrum of Action

Discipline vs Motivation: The Love-Fear Spectrum of Action

When you’re working on a cool software project that solves a real world problem, you’re operating from love. This intrinsic motivation is exciting. Compare that to a 9-5 job done just to maintain a lifestyle – here fear of losing financial security is the main driver.

Being Present is a Daily Practice

Being Present is a Daily Practice

The human brain goes into present-moment awareness during life-threatening situations. The amygdala releases cortisol and adrenaline and we focus completely on immediate survival. We can access deep presence when needed – your brain does this during car accidents, natural disasters, or physical threats. This biological response has been with us for millions of years as a survival mechanism. Research shows these heightened states of awareness increase reaction time by up to 50%.

Stop Worrying About What Other People Think

Stop Worrying About What Other People Think

We should all aspire to be good people. But we shouldn’t waste our time trying to prove it to others. As Paulo Coelho says, “Be a good person, but don’t waste your time trying to prove it.”
